How should BYD Tang EV charging
While BYD hybrid models have received widespread attention, pure electric models also have a large number of loyal fans. Compared to pure electric hybrid models, consumers are more concerned about their energy replenishment issues. Today, the author will share with you the charging method of BYD Tang EV, a pure electric new energy.
At present, there are three official models on sale for the new version of the Tang EV, namely the 600KM premium version, the 730KM premium model, and the 635KM four-wheel drive flagship model. The three models are equipped with BYD blade battery (Fodi Lithium iron phosphate battery), of which the battery capacity of the 600KM version is 90.3KWH, while the battery capacity of the other two versions is 108.8KWH. How can we charge a pure electric BYD Tang EV equipped with a large capacity battery like this?
Method 1: Use the on-board charger
1. Use BYD 10A1.6KW onboard charging
When purchasing the BYD Tang EV model, the 4S store will give a free car charger to the consumer. The car charger power is 220V10A1.6KW, which can be directly plugged into the ordinary three hole socket at home to charge the Tang EV.
Charging the Tang EV with this power can charge the car 1.6 kilowatt hours per hour. For a 90.3KWH Tang EV, fully charging requires 90.3KWH/1.6KW=56.4H; If the battery capacity is 108.8KWH, fully charging requires 108.8KWH/1.6KW=68H.
It seems a bit slow to charge a pure electric Tang EV with this on-board charging method. If it is used as a regular energy supplement method for Tang EV, it may increase charging troubles, so this on-board charging method is still acceptable as an emergency energy supplement method.
2. Using a portable charger
The reason why BYD's on-board charging is slow is because its rated current only allows a maximum of 10A, and in our daily life, there is also a relatively common socket that can pass a maximum current of 16A. In this case, the on-board charging power of 16A3.5KW can be selected to charge BYD Tang EV, which can charge 3.3 kilowatt hours as soon as possible.
The Tang EV equipped with a 90.3KWH battery capacity requires 90.3KWH/3KW=30.1H to fully charge; The Tang EV equipped with a 108.8KWH battery capacity requires 108.8KWH/3KW=36.2H to fully charge. Compared to BYD's on-board charging, using a 16A3KW on-board charging system has nearly doubled the speed. In fact, the biggest role of on-board charging is to quickly supplement the energy of the car when we can't find a Charging station or charging station. For example, when we go back to the countryside on holidays, we can directly charge at home with one of these on-board charging devices. Even if we can't find a Charging station or charging station, we can quickly supplement the energy of the car.
Method 2: Use Charging station
1. Use BYD Charging station
For pure electric Tang EVs, using onboard charging may be a bit slow, but it cannot be denied that onboard charging is a relatively fast charging method. In fact, Tang EV can also use the AC Charging station to charge at home. When buying a car, the 4S store will give the owner a
wall mounted Charging station with a power of 220V32A7KW. Install and use this Charging station at home to charge Tang EV, which can charge the car at the fastest rate of 6 kilowatt hours.
If the BYD Tang EV is equipped with 90.3KWH batteries, it needs 90.3KWH/6KW=15H to fully charge; If it is a Tang EV equipped with 108.8KWH, it requires 108.8KWH/6KW=18.3H to fully charge. It can be seen from the calculation that if the wall mounted Charging station is used to charge Tang EV faster, and if the Charging station can be installed if conditions permit, the author suggests that it is better to install the Charging station at home, because it is not only convenient but also the cost of using AC charging is relatively low.
Unfortunately, the Tang EV with a large capacity battery can only support 220V single-phase charging power and cannot support
380V three-phase AC slow charging. Otherwise, the speed can be even faster.
2. Using a 32A portable charger
If you are an operating owner or Tang EV owner who has no conditions to install a Charging station, there is actually another way to charge Tang EV at a speed of 6KW, that is, you can buy this 32A dual-use portable charger.
This dual-use portable charger can not only be used as a Charging station at home, with a power of 6KW, equivalent to the original BYD wall mounted Charging station, but also be used as a car charging, with a maximum power of 3.3KW. This is because this car charging has two plugs with different power, which is very convenient for power conversion through the adapter under the control box.
When using a 32A adapter, the maximum power can reach 6KW, but before using it, a special 32A socket needs to be installed because a regular 16A socket cannot withstand this power. The appearance of this socket is similar to that of a regular socket at home, and it can be installed openly or concealed. However, it should be noted that it is best to use a cable of no less than 3 cores and 6 square meters for concealed turning. Using too thin cables may pose safety hazards.
In addition, this charger also has a 16A plug. By replacing it with a regular 16A plug, it can be turned into a car charging device, which can be used as a car charging device for the Tang EV for emergency charging. The dual-use charger is convenient and can reduce charging anxiety. It is also very suitable for the dual-use portable charger with no conditions to install a household Charging station.
Method 3: Use DC fast charging
The above method is Tang EV's AC charging method summarized by the author. In fact, Tang EV can also support a maximum
DC fast charging power of 170KW. Under ideal conditions, BYD Tang EV can be charged with DC fast charging, and it only takes 30 minutes to fully charge the battery from 30% to 80%, which is very fast.
However, frequent use of DC fast charging can have a significant negative impact on the battery of Tang EV, as DC charging is a charging method that directly acts on the battery without passing through the on-board motor. Although the speed is relatively fast, long-term use will shorten the battery life. The best charging method for Tang EV in our daily life is to use AC charging at home, not only for battery protection but also to reduce vehicle costs.
In addition, BYD Tang EV can also support reservation charging. In order to further reduce the cost of using cars, make good use of this reservation charging function to charge Tang EV when the price of electricity is cheaper at night, and the cost of electricity will be lower.
